QUEST BOARD.

QUESTS.
SEPTEMBER.

GOING TO LIBRARIAN HELL - ★★ - TAKEN BY ELIZABETH YORK
Heard of the sigils? You're about to. The Brucolac has heard rumours that in the library of the University of Redgate, a manuscript known as the History of Bones is being translated and decoded in utmost secrecy. It deals with the sigils. Steal or destroy the manuscript and deal with the translator...somehow. No more information about the sigils can be leaked to Seelie hands!

This quest may have multiple outcomes according to how you prefer to play it—eg, kill or spare the translator, destroy or keep the manuscript, or even snaffle it for yourself etc etc, but there will be IC consequences depending on your choices!

Rewards: 50 gold, an introduction to the Midnight Court (if you are not already associated), a lockpick charm capable of counteracting basic wards.

QUAKING IN MY BOOTS – ★★
Recent earthquakes have troubled the land around Mair. Locals and earth magic specialists alike say there's something off about them. Go to the small eastern villages on the Seelie/Unseelie border to provide aid, encourage Unseelie support in the area and while you're there see if you can't find out what's been going on.

'Aid' may be medical or military, or might involve gathering food, or helping with reconstruction; whatever you're best at!

Rewards: 40 gold, acclaim and approval around the area (a crucial tactical area in the War of the Shards!), and a travel-ready first aid kit stocked with medicinal herbs and notes on where to find more.

GOD IS HOPEFULLY NOT DEAD - ★
The Brucolac wants to encourage the growth of the cult of Kaio, a young fire god who is considered an easy target in the Godswar and of very little concern. But now the poor wee dear has gone missing. Go out and evangelise, worship etc, but also keep an eye out and an ear to the ground.

Write 1500 words of your character worshipping, spreading the fiery hype and trying to find out what's happened to Kaio.

Rewards: 20 gold, a foot in the door of an exciting new religion, and three enchanted candles: light one in a sealed room for complete privacy of speech!

MAYHEM – ★ - TAKEN BY EGGSY UNWIN
Misdirect! Misinform! Misbehave! The Brucolac wants you to cause a night of havoc and hysteria in Seelie and/or neutral territory and escape as quick as you can; he'll lend you his puca, Accalon, to let you cross leagues in moments and to help you make a quick getaway when the sun is up. You'll also be armed and equipped however you feel necessary, for free. Burn crops in the Cathraon, spread lies in Treun, graffiti up the White Citadel, dress up like a Fox Cultist and give everyone a scare, slaughter innocents, tie shoelaces together or bankrupt businesses; whatever you do best, go out and do it, and keep the Seelie on their toes.

Write 1500 words of pure mayhem.

Please note that despite this being close in nature to the event for August, quest threads can't be used towards boon requirements!

Rewards: 20 gold, keep the gear (decent armour and weapons if you so desire them), and get an invite to the Midnight Court when next it's held.

CLAIM A QUEST BY:

1. PMing me with the quest you'd like to claim so we can hash out quest assignment, then;
2. Dropping the mods a line at the quest request page to let them know you've taken up a quest, for ease of recording!

New rules mean that quest assignment and reporting-in must be ICly logged. Please use the comments on this post to do so; we can talk about this via PM when you claim a quest! EDIT: THIS IS NO LONGER NECESSARY, but for CR purposes we can absolutely do it; just let me know what you prefer.

BOONS & INVENTORY

. )
BOONS

  • a chest of gold: 3 hands-length x 3hl x 3hl. it transpires that the fair folk have a bad sense of humour; the money arrived in a box literally made of human hands.
  • a ship - boon request altered (paperweight & puca). the Brucolac gets, instead, a tiny paperweight version of the Uroc, and a month-long contract with a bad-tempered puca named Accalon. he later renews this contract by allowing Accalon to spend a night taking him on a wild jaunt where he likes; messed-up as he is, he enjoys it as much as it terrifies him.
  • a release from his debts - boon denied for now, meeting granted with Morla. asking for too much and doing too little, unsurprisingly, will get you a slap on the wrist.
  • a means to produce dreamshit - approved. the brucolac has three slakemoth grubs in his possession. gross!

INVENTORY

  • redgate's ring. plain red iron, this token from Alyosha allows the Brucolac to get information & aid from any of Redgate's outposts. he keeps it about his neck. sacrificed to the pyrii as of january 2015.
  • 1 feather of the bird king. allows stealth, invisibility, the ability to pass through magical barriers.
  • a chest of hands. see first boon. these days, it's used for firewood
  • a portable hole. small dark bottle. throw against a flat surface to activate. do not throw anything you wish to see again into the hole. do not put your hand in the hole. do not ask where the hole goes. one use only. a yule present courtesy of one Harry Potter.
  • the 14th sigil: change. robbed from a robber. currently in the form of a key hanging about the Brucolac's neck.
  • a freezing spell. a page of blood-drawn runes, which, when ripped, will freeze his enemies in battle; a gift from Linnaea. also a gift from Linn is...
  • an illustration. the Brucolac looking distracted and grumpy, staring over a battlefield, wearing the armour of the Unseelie, entitled Bad Tempered Commander of Caer Scima, Midwinter 5700.
  • a set of dog tags. his name is written on them in Drabbish and English, only the first of which he half-way understands. the concept of dog tags, additionally, is lost on him. nonetheless, he wears them strung about his neck. a yule gift from John Grimm.
  • a vial necklace. a gift from Ariadne; can be used to store snacks.
  • the White Snake tattoo. a tattoo which winds along his right arm and ends with the snake's head on the back of his hand. only visible out of doors, particularly by the light of the moon. it marks him as a member of the Midnight Court.
  • a debtor's mark. on the back of his right hand; the snake curves around it, but does not quite enclose it. a curious black-ink symbol, it may be made of stylised eyes, or wings, or mouths. unpleasant to look at, difficult to look away from.
